Maria Malmberg:
How do space, material, the expectations of humans or other living beings in regard to the given environment, come together with their qualities and it’s specialities?
My thoughts, which occur when I plunge into a certain space, are underlined with philosophical ideas about human perception and behaviour. Like theorists Friedrich Nietzsche and Thomas Fuchs, I also work, artistically, with the views, habits and behaviors of humans in the present-day, alongside a critical consideration of changing perceptions: historical, cognitive, and with a glimpse to the future. Especially the permanently moving and mingling line between imagination and reality of the human perception leads me to considerations about fixed thinking of categories and thought patterns. To find a different way of perceiving and valuing, I shift material, space, the inner picture and release it as a modulated context.
Mathilde Dumont:
„À Prés-le-Bigbang“, 2017
A stone picked to the edge of the Baltic See. Not a small one, no, a rock, heavy and massive. What do I see, when I observe it closely? Strokes, lines, fissures; wrinkles. Folded matter on itself. An irregular and raw volume, which has a long story. A set of visual signs, others folded containing even more mystery. I try to unfold this volume : small continents take form, blanks, different interspaces between every whole. The deployment of this stone suddenly looks like a world map. A new world, a poetic space. „À Prés-le-Bigbang“ is the beginning of a distortion, the origin of a reverie ; a cosmologic travel, through the continents of the stone „Misa“, which develops our imagination.
